The NHL stated Monday that Dallas Stars head trainer Rick Bowness has been fined $25k for his behavior on the bench during the team’s game against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.

After the Blues rallied late with 22 power-play scores in the final seconds of regulation, Rick Bowness was spotted swinging a hockey stick and pounding the back of the bench area.

Rick Bowness Frustrated With Overlooked Penalty

The Stars’ four-game winning streak came to an end, and they are now three points off of the last wild-card place.

The Stars led for the whole of Sunday’s game before the Blues took advantage of a power play in the final minute. The Stars were penalized for another penalty as St. Louis scored a goal, allowing the Blues to continue with a man advantage and score the game-winner to cap an incredible comeback.

Rick Bowness was most irritated with an overlooked penalty call on  Brayden Schenn, Blues forward, who seemed to grasp the hockey stick of Miro Heiskanen, the Stars defender, and pushed him to the ground just before O’Reilly’s game-equaling goal with less than a minute left.

Heiskanen slashed Kyrou after being tackled. Before O’Reilly’s goal, the tackle earned him a late penalty. On the subsequent power play, the Blues scored the game-winning goal.

With 1:52 left in the third period, O’Reilly scored while Jani Hakanpaa, the Stars’ defender,  was in the penalty zone for a foul. Heiskanen replaced Hakanpaa in the box following O’Reilly’s goal since his late penalty was announced when the Stars were down a man.

During that period, Rick Bowness was angered at an allegedly missed holding-the-stick penalty call against a Blues player.

The money from the fine will be donated to the NHL Foundation.
