Hollywood veteran Russell Crowe claims that “Gladiator” helped him turn around his career, and he is “slightly jealous” that he won’t be appearing in the film’s impending sequel. The sequel featuring Paul Mescal will be directed by renowned director Ridley Scott, who also helmed the 2000 epic historical drama starring Russell Crowe.
“Gladiator” was a “huge experience in my life,” according to Crowe, who won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Roman commander Maximus Decimus Meridius in the movie. “Look, the only true emotion I have about it is a tiny bit of jealousy, you know? Obviously, I was a lot younger man, and it was a very significant experience in my life.
Russell Crowe Wanted To Star In The New Gladiator Movie
“Really, it’s something that altered my life. In an interview about the movie’s sequel, the actor from New Zealand said: “It transformed the way people regarded me and what I do for a job. You know, I’ve been extremely happy to be part of plenty of huge movies, but the legs on that film are fantastic. Not every movie has the same longevity as “Gladiator,” he continued.
“This is the year 2023, and that movie was produced in 1999. I can assure you that “Gladiator” will air tonight during prime time on television anywhere in the world. It clearly retains a particular place in my heart because you don’t always achieve that type of longevity with every movie you do, remarked Crowe.
The main character in “Gladiator,” played by Crowe’s Maximus, swears retribution against the usurper crown prince Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) for the deaths of his family and the king after being become a slave. Along with the Oscar for Crowe, the movie also took home four more Oscars, including Best Picture.
