Simon Biles has always been a step ahead of the competition ever since she burst onto the scene. But one of the greatest gymnasts ever continues to power her way ahead and is surely on her way to Japan.

Simon Biles was at her best on the first day of the women’s competition at the US Olympic Gymnastics trials on Friday. That is even more commendable because her scores in the floor exercise at the US Championships and the US Classic are the highest.

It was an electrifying performance. The 5-time world floor champion scored an impressive 15.366, 0.416 more than her highest score this season. It is also 1.116 points more than her score in the US Classic.

Simon Biles Posts A Record All Round Total

She posted a 15.133 on the beam. Her maneuver included a Biles dismount. Even without doing the Yurchenko double-pike, she managed to top the competition.

Both her floor exercises were supremely controlled and spectacularly executed. She was within the white lines during her mind-boggling routine.

Her emotions got the better of her after her commendable winning effort. She is assured of her place whatever happens on Sunday. Suni Lee and Chiles followed Simon Biles. Lee scored 57.66 and Chiles managed 57.132, half a point ahead of Skinner.

Biles leads in St. Louis with 60.656 points halfway through the competition. She had the highest score on the balance beam with 15.133 and 15.466 on the vault.

More Room For Difficulty For Simon Biles

The four-time Olympic gold medalist is still capable of greater difficulty and higher scores. Simon Biles did not go for the Biles vault, or the double-double vault, or even the Yurchenko double pike.

Lee had the better score in the uneven bars and was 0.4 ahead of Simon Biles. She is a strong contender for the bars’ gold at the 2020 Olympics.
