You may have missed out on the Massachusetts tax rebate since it’s a one-time deal. Here’s how to find out if you qualify and how to get your stimulus check.

If you live in Massachusetts and paid state income taxes in 2021, there’s a chance that you can get a refund from the state. But if you miss this deadline, you’ll have to wait until 2023 to file your return. And that means missing out on the $1,000 rebate that the state of Massachusetts will be giving out to eligible filers.

The deadline for filing for this rebate is April 15, which is less than two weeks away! If you’re thinking about filing your 2021 tax return now so as not to miss out on any refunds or rebates due—or even if it’s just been filed already—please make sure that at least one of your forms shows proof of payment of state income taxes (i.e., Form MA-1040ES).

Stimulus Check Money For States

If you received a Massachusetts income tax refund in 2018, there’s some good news: You may be able to get a $500 rebate.

To qualify, you must have filed your 2018 Massachusetts tax return and received at least one of the following:

  • A federal or state refund in 2018;
  • A credit balance from 2017 that carried over into 2018; or
  • An estimated payment made in 2019 (which will be applied against your 2020 tax bill).

    The bottom line is that if you owe taxes in Massachusetts, you should file as soon as possible. If you have a stimulus check coming to you, then filing before April 15th is the only way to get your money back. Remember that even though it may seem like a hassle, tax time can be an exciting time when it comes to receiving stimulus checks!
