Former President of the US, Donald Trump has been formally charged with indictment for mishandling classified government documents in his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. This has opened a federal proceeding against the alleged charges against Donald Trump, while he faces various other accusations, including the defamation lawsuit by E. Jean Carroll.
The 79-year-old American journalist, Carroll accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in the mid-1990s in a store in New York City, for which earlier in May, a jury found Trump guilty of the charges against him. Trump was dictated by the jury to provide Carroll with $ 5 million as reparations. These lawsuits and now the indictment certainly does not go in favor of Trump’s image, as he is running for the 2024 Presidential election.
Donald Trump has been demanded to appear at Miami’s US District Court on Tuesday at 3 pm. According to two sources well-informed about Trump’s indictment, it has been confirmed that Trump has been indicted with seven counts of criminal charges. However, Trump’s indictment was at first not announced formally by the US Department of Justice, while Trump had announced his indictment via his media platform Truth Social. Following his announcement, prosecutors reached out to the team of lawyers of Trump.
Donald Trump Had Around 300 Classified Government Documents In His Possession
According to the prosecutors, who have issued the indictment, Donald Trump held around 300 classified government documents in his possession at his Mar-a-Lago estate, after he left the White House, post-presidency. In August this year, around 100 such documents were recovered by the FBI in a seizure operation, which further legitimizes the indictment against him. Recently, in a speech in Des Moines, Ohio, former Vice President Mike Pence announced his candidacy for the 2024 Presidential Election, he discredited Trump under whom he had served his vice presidency for the Capitol Hill riot of January 6 in 2021.
