In the impending movie version of the famous Broadway blockbuster, Erivo will portray Elphaba against Grande’s Glinda, while Jeff will enact the Wizard. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande visited the actor-musician backstage at the London Royal Festival on Saturday, where he had been doing a performance with his ensemble.

In Jon Chu’s planned film adaptation of two parts of the popular Broadway musical, Erivo will play Elphaba against Grande’s Glinda, while Jeff Goldblum will play the Wizard.

Ariana Grande To Play A Witch In Wicked

In November 2021, Erivo and Ariana Grande were introduced as the protagonists. The musical’s major love interest, Fiyero, was cast in the role in September, according to “Crashing” actor Jonathan Bailey, who affirmed his role last month. Jeff Goldblum said during his recent appearance on The Jimmy Kimmel Show that he had recently been on the film sets of Wicked but he was not allowed to speak about it. He further added that his sons, 7-year-old Charlie and 6-year-old River had also come with him to the London set of his film.

He also appreciated his co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo saying that the movie had amazing witches. Even though Goldblum was careful about not revealing anything about the film, he did open up about one of his childhood nightmares involving witches that would make him spring from sleep, and how the anxiety resurfaced when the movie was being filmed. He recalled tearing up one day out of fear mid-shoot as his childhood fears came back.

In an update announcing both films in April last year, Chu stated that a wider canvas will provide the team the ability to incorporate as many musicals as well as characters as they want to. Chu further added that with a bigger space, they could represent the Wicked story to its fullest potential.
