Bayern Munich is continuing from where they stopped the previous Champions League, as they crushed Lazio in the first leg of the Round of 16. Robert Lewandowski has been continuing his dream run and is now the third-highest scorer in Champions League history. Currently, he is behind Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi who are at 134 and 119 goals respectively- Lewandowski is third with 72 goals.

Bayern Munich Have A Huge First Leg Lead

The match had only one winner, and it was pretty predestined. After Lewandowski scored the first goal within nine minutes, Jamal Musiala doubled the lead soon. He became the youngest English football player to score a goal in the Champions League. Lazio’s atrocious defending definitely helped the German club pile on the misery as Leroy Sane made it 3-0 before the break. With the game resuming after half-time, Acerbi scored an own goal to make it 4-0 before Correa scored one to make it 4-1. Incidentally, this is the only loss that Lazio has faced in the entire tourney.

The captain of Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuer was all praises for his team. He congratulated them for bringing their best feet, as they completely wrecked the Italian club. In fact, it was a welcome sight from the way the club’s performance has dipped in the Bundesliga. This is the 18th match the defending champions have been without defeat consecutively in this competition- and it remains to be seen if they can take it all the way.

The match seemed equal in the first couple of minutes, after which Bayern Munich decided to latch on to the loose passes from Lazio. Soon, the goal machine from the German club tapped in after Musacchio gave away the possession. After that, it was a German rout all over the place.
