Beto O’Rourke, one of the presidential candidates for the 2020 Presidential race and the ex-congressman, began his 2022 Texas Gubernatorial Race campaign on Monday. He will be attempting to unseat the present Republican Governor Greg Abbott.

The Next Step For Beto O’Rourke

On Monday, Beto O’Rourke announced that he was going to try being the Governor on Twitter using a video. He said that he hopes to push beyond the divisive and small politics prevalent in Texas in the present day. As such, O’Rourke hopes to return Texas to its traditional bold and big definition.

Many Texas Democrats believe that Beto O’Rourke is the only opportunity to prevent Abbott from being the governor for the third time. O’Rourke is a native of El Paso and used to be a punk rocker. He started a company for internet services and was a city council member as well. In 2011, he became a Congressman for the first time. This will be his 3rd attempt to have an office in 4 years.

Beto O’Rourke’s first run across the state of Texas was a small chance against Ted Cruz, Senate Republican, in 2018. However, the campaign had raised the hopes of Democrats in Texas – a state that has not seen any major Democratic influence for almost a generation.

He had started from a Congressman that was hardly known and became a dynamo in fundraising. During his 2018 run, he set a record for the highest amount raised to finance a bid for the Senate. Moreover, he did not have a very intricate structure to work with back then.

As a result, he had been beaten by Cruz by less than 3% points. This result gave way to a presidential run in 2019 that was short-lived.
