Cody Gakpo Has Been Copying Mohamed Salah In More Ways Than One

Cody Gakpo could definitely be the one to shake the front line of Liverpool this summer- it is certainly on the cards as of now. The long-established front three of the Reds will all have stepped into their thirties and gearing up to start the final year of their existing contracts, as most things stand.

One player that could make a move to Anfield is Gakpo, the winger for PSV Eindhoven, who also plays as a winger for the Dutch national team. Interestingly, PSV and the Reds have never had much of a relationship historically- with the only purchase being Jan Kromkamp back in 2006 when Benitez was playing roulette with the position of right-back.

Cody Gakpo Could Be The Perfect Replacement For Salah

Cody Gakpo is definitely much more highly rated than his predecessor though, with Voetbal International- the Dutch news outlet, reporting that both Manchester City and Liverpool have their sights set on the acquisition of this 22-year-old stalwart into their squads. Just a layman’s look at even the simplest statistics would show that his contribution has definitely taken quite a major step forward in the current season.

Gakpo, the winger from PSV, has already scored six goals while providing 10 assists in the Eredivisie already with the combined total at least thrice better than he had managed in any of his previous campaigns as a winger. The numbers also provide much insight into how he usually poaches goals, before one would even think of looking at the highlights compilation. Although mostly used as a left-winger, Cody Gakpo has shown his versatility by playing both as a center-forward and as a right-winger.

Before putting him up on a pedestal, all one would have to do is look at how Mohamed Salah plays. Now imagine Cody Gakpo in the same position- and you get an inkling as to what this player could potentially bring to Liverpool in the coming seasons.
