Minneapolis Police Reportedly Identify Viral ‘Umbrella Man’ As White Supremacist

The masked ‘Umbrella Man’ has been identified by the Minneapolis police as a white supremacist person. The man went viral after video clips of him breaking windows at an auto parts store surfaced right after the death of George Floyd. The police officials have said that the Umbrella Man’s intentions were to incite racial violence.

Erika Christensen, one of the investigators, told Minneapolis Star Tribune that the man’s actions have led to a series of hostile incidents. She said that the Black Lives Matter protests in the state were peaceful until then.

The man’s name has not been revealed as he is not officially guilty of any crime yet. Media sources contacted the Minneapolis police department for further comments but the name is still to be revealed. A representative from the department said that the case is ongoing and open right now.

Police officials have also revealed that the man has possible links to another incident where a Muslim woman was harassed while she was shopping with her young daughter.

Ask of now, around 500 local businesses have been looted or damaged and at least 70 stores have been burned.
