Over 20 states out of the 50 US states have sent states stimulus checks to residents in 2022. Though the state stimulus checks are not as generous or widespread as the federal stimulus checks, they have succeeded in making less the burden of all-round rising prices that have touched everything from groceries to gasoline.

The federal stimulus checks, especially the third economic impact payment were wide in its scope and included many measures other than the direct payment to beneficiaries. The third stimulus checks were part of the American Rescue Plan Act signed by President Biden in March 2021, a couple of months after he came to power in January of the same year.

The third stimulus checks were worth as much as $1,400 for each claimant including family dependents. So a family of four with an Adjusted Gross Income below $75,000 could get as much as $5,600. But it did not end there. There were the extended weekly unemployment checks and the expanded Child Tax Credit stimulus checks that supported individuals and families through 2021.

Political gridlock in Washington ensured that no stimulus check payment was possible in 2022 with even the expanded CTC stimulus check suspended, reverting to its original $2,000 per child per year instead of between $3,000 and $3,600.

But the state stimulus checks partially compensated for the absence of the federal stimulus checks. But the payment has been limited to around 21 states and as the year winds down, the payments have already been made. But a few states have timed their payment with the holiday season of 2022. This move has been especially advantageous for families who have extra expenses at the end of the year during the holiday season.

Here are the states from whom you can still expect a stimulus check in December.

California Stimulus Checks Continue Into December 2022

The California stimulus checks of up to $1,050 were passed by Governor Gavin Newsom back in June this year. but the payments were disbursed only in the last quarter of 2022. The payments started on October 7, 2022, and went out to residents who filed their state 2020 income tax returns by October 15, 2021.

Other criteria for the payment included income below $250,000 for 2020 for individuals and double that for married couples filing jointly. The claimants also cannot be themselves claimed as a dependent on another 2020 filer’s tax file and also should be a resident of California for at least 6 months in the tax year, which in this case in 2020.

The tax rebate has already gone out to millions of residents of California. The first round of payments went to residents who have received their Golden State I or II directly into their accounts. They received the third round of payments through the same method and received their payments by the third week of October 2022.

But residents who received their payments through a Golden State Stimulus card (GSS debit card)  should expect their payment through the US postal service between December 5 and December 31, 2022.

Residents scheduled to receive a debit card for their stimulus payment because they change their account or bank after they filed their income tax return for 2020 will be issued a debit card only between December 17, 2022, and January 14, 2023.

The Colorado Stimulus Check Is Also Scheduled In The Last Quarter Of 2022

Residents of Colorado above the age of 18 who filed their income tax returns for 2021 or have applied for a PTC rebate (property tax/rent/heat rebate) are in line for a Colorado Cash Back payment in 2022 that will be $750 for single filers and double that for married couples filing jointly.

The first round of payment started on September 30, 2022. Residents who filed their Colorado tax returns or applied for a PTC rebate by June 30, 2022, received the payment. Those who filed an extension for their 2021 Colorado state returns and filed by the extended date of October 17, 2022, will have their payment postponed to January 2023.

The Idaho State Stimulus Check

Residents of Idaho are in line for two stimulus checks in 2022 while the first payment is $75 per family member or 12% of the tax liability before credit, payments, other taxes, and donations on the Idaho state return for 2020. The beneficiary gets the larger of the two amounts.

The second segment of the Idaho state stimulus check is way bigger at $600 for married couples filing a joint return or $300 for individual filers. They can also get 10% of the tax liability before credit, other taxes, donations, and payments on their 2020 state income tax returns.

Full-year residents who have filed their state income tax returns for 2020 and 2021 by 2022 will be in line for the stimulus check. Idaho residents who submitted a refund form for grocery credit are even eligible for the payments.

Most of the 1st round payments have gone out to resident beneficiaries. But many Idaho residents are yet to get their payments in the second round. These payments are scheduled for December 2022. Idaho is sending out 2nd round payments according to the date the income tax returns for 2021 were received from the recipients.

The payments will be processed through 2022 and will spill over in 2023 even as Idaho residents file their requisite income tax returns. The payments can be tracked by a resident through the online portal of the Idaho Tax Commission. For general taxes, residents can look up Idaho State Tax Guide.

Illinois Stimulus Payments

Residents of Illinois, like the residents of Idaho, will receive two state stimulus checks in 2022. The first is an income tax rebate of $50 for individuals and double that for married couples. There is an additional $100 for each dependent for a maximum of 3 dependents. There is also a property tax rebate of up to $300.

The rebate is going out to residents of Illinois with a 2021 state AGI of less than $200,000 for individual filers and double that for married couples filing jointly. For the property tax rebate, the potential beneficiaries must be state resident who has paid the property taxes for the state in 2021 on their primary residence in 2020.
