Mitch McConnell and Joe Biden are supposed to have an emergency hotline. So far, it was awfully silent. Now, it has reportedly rung once more for the endangered Democratic economic agenda.

Mitch McConnell Wants To Talk

On Monday, Mitch McConnell, the leader of the minority in the Senate, indicated to President Biden that he should convince the Democrats to pass the debt ceiling rise without any help from the Republicans. This might be the beginning of a complicated and long-drawn-out conversation between the two.

For months, Mitch McConnell has maintained his stance of not helping the present Democratic government in any way in their attempt to increase the national debt limit. Even now, as a default on the part of the US government looms larger, he has stated once more that the Democrats will not be getting any help from him.

In the letter, Mitch McConnell tells President Biden to think about talking directly with Democrats in Congress regarding the matter. He said that the President must not want his majority government to gradually walk toward a catastrophe that can be easily avoided. It is even more surprising since they knew of it almost 3 months ahead.

The letter from Mitch McConnell also talks about Joe Biden’s stance opposing a debt limit increase in the past. He said that the President must be responsible for an economic agenda that he had opposed in the past.

President and the leader of the Senate GOP worked together to avoid a fiscal catastrophe during Biden’s tenure as the Vice-President. The two share a long relationship. However, the current predicament has not seen the two even talk. The letter from McConnell is the first actual communication between the two regarding the upcoming fiscal deadline in 2021.
