Donald Trump Jr. as well as Ivanka Trump have outright refused to cooperate with the subpoenas that were issued by the Attorney general of New York. The subpoenas are a part of an investigation into the business practices of their father, as reported by ABC News.

According to the New York Times, the Attorney General of New York’s civil inquiry is mostly attuned to whether Mr. Trump committed fraud by inflating the value of his assets in order to secure bank loans as well as understate them elsewhere to reduce his bill of tax.

Donald Trump Jr. Has Decided To Quash The Subpoenas, Rather Than Comply

Letitia James, the Attorney general, had subpoenaed the former President and his two oldest children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump on the 1st of December. While the involvement of the former president was made public within a bunch of days, the subpoenas surrounding his children came to light in a document that was released on Monday.

The oldest son of the President had been quite the figure in running the Trump Organization during his father’s presidency, while Ivanka had worked in the West Wing primarily as a presidential adviser.

Along with Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump had also been questioned by James’ office in October 2020. Based on the findings, James does have the full authority to file a civil lawsuit but wouldn’t be able to pursue any criminal charges- in other words, if the Trumps were to be put behind bars, it wouldn’t be due to mishandling the total value of their assets. James is also involved in a criminal tax-avoidance investigation into the organization- which could be a catalyst if things came to a head.

Both Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump have decided to file motions that would quash the subpoenas.
